Payment Transaction Processing
Despite the fact that any organization or individual wanting to receive payments from the US would have no problems in processing checks themselves, this scam works on the fiction of 'difficulties' to mask a money laundering or fake check operation. Due to slow processing of checks by banks, especially foreign ones, it can be up to three weeks after paying in a check/cheque that it is discovered to be counterfeit. This scam almost always uses Western Union (The Scammers Friend) to receive the payment from the victim - this is as good as cash and is instant so by the time your bank informs you that the check has bounced, your account is overdrawn and you owe them several thousand dollars, the scammer is long gone.

In most cases, this scam is targetted at job seekers (careerbuilder.com, monster.com, dice.com, craiglist.com are favorite sites). For this reason, if you have posted your resume/cv on any website, you will almost certainly attract several of this type of job offer. BEWARE!
